November Update 11/05/2009

Hey everybody,

November has arrived and things are about to get interesting. We're quickly closing on a lot of concerts and we've been finishing a lot of music in rehearsals. I just put up a concert preview video on our youtube page. (www.youtube.com/huacappella)

The fundraising towards the album is coming along great. If you've ever considered donating, please don't hesitate to do so. The donation links are on the home page and on the contact page. You can also email me if you have any questions about the process. We greatly appreciate your help and generosity.

Be sure to check out our concert page and mark your calendars. You're not going to want to miss that December 7th Concert.

TTFN, Ta ta for now,

Brian

Hello all,

So auditions are done, new members selected, and concert dates chosen. Thanks to all who auditioned, and congratulations to all of our new members. Be on the look out for their bios, and pictures to accompany them. The concert page has been updated and will continue to be so across the semester.

I just sent out the first issue of the Harmonic Uprising Newsletter of the new year. If you didn't receive it and would like to, please just make use of our contact page and let me know.

Also, on our contact page is a link to a website at which you can donate to Harmonic Uprising. As many of you already know, we're recording our first studio album this year and it will be a costly adventure. Any help you'd be willing to give would be greatly appreciated.

We're also still accepting song ideas for the year, so don't hesitate to comment on this blog, or email us your ideas for songs.

It's good to be back.

Hey all,

So the year is coming up quickly and I am getting more excited every day. I cannot wait for Harmonic Uprising to get started again. After a great deal of time preparing music, I've finally finished most of the arrangements for the first semester. Audition information has been posted on our new Audition page, and a sign-up sheet will become available on campus as soon as classes begin. Auditions will take place on Sunday, September 13th from 1-4pm. If you are not and cannot become available for these, and wish to still audition, please email me as soon as possible. If you have questions that are unanswered by the Audition page, feel free to shoot me an email as well.

Be on the look out for new member pages and concert updates coming soon. After auditions, the first edition of Harmonic Uprising e-Newsletter will be sent out, so make sure you sign up to receive the newsletter before then.

Lastly, if you have any suggestions for our year, from music to performances, there is no better time than now. Email me, or use our comment submission section on our contact page. We love to hear from our fans.

Fairwell for now,
Brian

Summertime has come, and I am now home. I will certainly be missing Harmonic Uprising over these summer months, as I know many of you will as well. On the brightside though, I am looking forward to starting arranging again, and will probably start working on the arrangements for our album later today. While I do know what several of the songs will be, I am still at a loss for the complete set list, as well as other songs we will be singing next year. If you have any song ideas, now is a great time to let me know. Comment on this blog, use our comment page, or write us a personal email. All are welcome and fantastic. If you would like to make a donation to Harmonic Uprising towards the cd, please send me an email.

Thanks to all who have supported us across this first year, in whatever capacity that may have been. We hope that you will continue to support us in the years to come, especially as we take on bigger and better adventures.

April Update 04/11/2009

So I just returned from the directors meeting for Acappellooza. The event is shaping up to be something wonderful, and I am very excited to be a part of it. But first, Harmonic Uprising is having their End of the Year Concert. April 20th at 730pm in the Sancta Alberta Chapel. I know that's plastered all over this website, but a reminder never hurts. There is no cost to get in, but we will be selling t-shirts to help raise funds for producing our cd next year.

Harmonic Uprising is participating in the Vocal Source referral program, so if you are going to begin producing your own a cappella album, consider going to vocalsource.net or checking out AudioGenix. Just mention HU when you sign up.

We've got a lot of concerts coming up soon and we hope you can make it to at least one of them. If you have any questions about any of them, pleaes do not hesitate to comment on this blog, email us, or use the contact form on our contact page. We love to hear from our fans.

Just a couple updates I thought I would fill you in on. First, there's a new concert on our concert page. It is Multicultural Night at Bolingbrook High School on April 16th. The event begins at 7pm.

I'm sending out the next issue of the newsletter this weekend, so if you have not subscribed to it yet, please do. Just send an email to harmonicuprising@gmail.com and I shall put you on the mailing list for the monthly e-newsletter.

Recently, I attend the International Championships of Collegiate A cappella (ICCA for short) Midwest Semifinal at Northwestern University. My review of the event was published on Acappellablog.com and you can find the article here.

Last but not least, there are finally photos of Harmonic Uprising members on their members pages and a bunch of new group photos on our media page.

March Update 03/01/2009

One day I vow to get more creative with the titles of these blog entries... February was a good month for Harmonic Uprising with an extremely successful performance at International Night, new apparel, and future concert invitations. Thank you to all who came to see us perform at International Night this past week. If you were unfortunate enough to miss the concert like I did (volleyball was playing away), do not fear. You can see all of the songs from our performance either on the media page of our website, or on youtube. Or both.

We'd like to thank Student Services for helping to cloth Harmonic Uprising. You'll see pictures of the members in the new gear up soon, and you can see apparel in the videos of the International Night performance.

We've also been invited to perform at Acappellooza at UIC this year. 2009 marks the first year for Acappellooza.  This event is being cohosted by Downtown Voices and Lake Affects, UIC's newest a cappella group and UIC's vocal jazz ensemble, respectively.  Acappellooza will take place April 26 in UIC's Student Center West from 3-5pm.  This showcase event will bring together numerous collegiate a cappella groups to heighten awareness about our groups and musical genre. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Chicago Jazz Philharmonic. We hope to see you all come out to support the local groups. You can see a full list of concerts on our new Concert page.

As always, thank you to all who support Harmonic Uprising as we continue to provide the community with great contemporary a cappella music.

February Update 02/05/2009

So I had a little free time on my hands and decided to click through the weebly website creator and see what other page designs were available to me. Feel free to let me know if you don't like it.

We're quickly prepping for International Night and sounding very good. The group seems to be having more fun than ever, and it shows in our music.

We finally ordered t-shirts and sweatshirts, so be on the look out for Harmonic Uprising members around campus. Having trouble spotting one? I know one surefire way to find one: At a Harmonic Uprising Performance. First, International Night on February 26th at 7pm. Harmonic Uprising will also be hosting their own concert on April 20th at 730p in the Chapel. We hope to see you at both performances.

If you're interested in being included in the Harmonic Uprising Newsletter, please send us an email. Thank you to all who gave us feedback about the first edition.

So far the year has started off great. We had rehearsal last night and we're sounding better than ever before. Everyone should be getting excited to see Jessica Luckett sing If I Were a Boy by Beyonce. It's fantastic.

Perhaps you saw the news update on the front page, but if not, here's another update. First, the date for our first performance this semester (International Night) has been set for February 26th. The event starts at 7pm. We hope to see you all there.

Secondly, we have had a bit of interest in an e-Newsletter of sorts, and so we will be starting sending a newsletter soon. I figure it will be sent out maybe once or twice per quarter, containing updates about Harmonic Uprising, our performances, website updates, and other adventures in a cappella. If that sounds like something you'd like to be a recipient of, please, don't hesitate to email us.

I'll be attending the ICCA quarterfinals at U of I this weekend, and I couldn't be more excited about it, so maybe I'll post again soon...

January Update 01/11/2009

As the new year begins, so does another semester of Harmonic Uprising. This is looking to be the best semester of HU yet (#1 of 2, I know), and will no doubt bring more great music and entertainment to Lewis University.

I've spent a lot of time over winter break arranging and preparing the music for second semester. You can check out the new additions on the repertoire page. The members pages will also be fully updated with photos and all soon.

We hope you'll come see us perform. The dates for our second semester concerts will be posted soon.
